Full Steam Ahead!

Blizzcon ticket sales came and went without a single update! But fear not… I have acquired two tickets to the con for myself and my trusty webmistress/BFF, Joey.

Sadly blog entries will be few and far between until next month. We are in the process of rolling out a new site with a bit more UMPH into it. Also changing, I have decided to go another route with my Blizzcon costume. While the female Death Knight is a gorgeous pieces of artwork, I want to do something a bit more challenging for Blizzcon 2010! Unfortunately, along with changing the idea for the costume, I’ve also changed my mind about announcing it prior to the con. This costume is going to be BIG (in scale and awesomeness), and thus giving it a BIG reveal at the convention is only fitting. I will be posting hints and small updates throughout the costume making process (and maybe some of you readers will be able to deduce what I’m making), however a full blow by blow write up about the costume won’t be published until the day of Blizzcon itself.

Luckily I have plenty of ideas of how to keep ya’ll entertained. Stay tuned. I promise not to disappoint.

Blizzcon 2010 Plans!

I’ve been promising to announce this for weeks, and now I’m finally doing it! Last year I based my costume on a mixture of the in-game model and the gorgeous Glenn Rane drawing of Sylvanas (which you can see in the upper right hand corner of my page), and this year will be very similar. I have decided to make my new costume a mixture of concept art and ingame model of the Human Death Knight starter gear. Although I will be modifying it slightly to apply to my Horde roots (going Blood Elf instead of Human)… the costume will mainly be based on this piece of art (again done by the masterful Glenn Rane):

Videos!

So I’ve been a terrible blogger! I’m pretty sure I promised that I’d be back by the end of last week with the announcement of my costume for Blizzcon 2010, but I just didn’t have the time this weekend to update you all on my plans! I’m sorry! To make up for it I shall present you with two horrible, yet hilarious videos of Cait and I at Blizzcon 2008 doing a couple of on camera interviews. This was my first time EVER doing an interview on camera and (as you will see) I was nervous as all hell. I even used the word “preceded” WAAAY incorrectly /facepalm. But, for what it’s worth I think we did a pretty good job for being thrown into something as crazy as G4TV on our first trip to a convention. Check it out, and don’t mock me too much ;)

The second video won’t embed but here is our interview with Wandering Goblin as well. Enjoy! And I promise I’ll be back by the end of the week to let you all know about my Blizzcon 2010 costume! Cross my heart!!

Blizzcon: An Event for Fans.

Since I’m lacking in content currently (still in the planning phases of my costume), I thought I would share with you all a wonderful mini-documentary about Blizzcon. For those of you who have never attended Blizzcon (and especially if you’re thinking about coming, but aren’t sure what you’re in for), this documentary is a great peek into what Blizzcon is all about! The documentary features me (very short clip!) as well as many of my other cosplay friends!

Enjoy!

PS- Hoping to announce my plans for 2010 on Friday!

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to my little piece of internet real estate! This blog’s primary purpose is to chronicle for my friends and family the process of creating a costume for Blizzcon 2010. It’s aGrand Warlock Alythess and Lady Sacrolash long and arduous process, but it’s really a lot of fun. Blizzcon 2008 was my first trip to a convention of any sort, as well as my first time cosplaying. My friend and costuming partner Cait (or Maghia) and I had never attempted anything like what we did before, but although we were inexperienced… I like to think our first costumes came out well for first timers.

In 2008, we were the Eredar Twins from Sunwell Plateau (from World of Warcraft… obviously!). Cait and I coordinated our costumes from across the US, and they turned out quite identical (no easy feat since we’d never met each other!). We had an amazing time at the con, and met so many wonderful people who have impacted our lives so much (Morten, Lindsay, Rainyia …)! While the process of creating the costume was relatively simple (there’s not a lot to work with in terms of clothing! Blizzard seems to like to keep their female characters scantily clad), the body paint took HOURS and was the least comfortable experience I’ve ever had. To make matters worse, we shared a hotel room with our guildies, all of whom we had never met. All dignity I had formerly possessed flew out the window once the paint sponges were pulled out and the painting began. However, hours of being practically naked in front of a room of strangers was made worth it when we arrived at the con and were received with a huge amount of fans that loved our costumes!

For Blizzcon 2009 we decided to take it up a notch and make costumes that were significantly more difficult than in 2008. My favorite character from Warcraft lore is Sylvanas Windrunner, and from the moment her new model was released ingame, I knew that I wanted to take her on as my next costume for Blizzcon 2009. Boy, I did not know what I was in for.

Making Sylvanas was a great learning process for me… I worked with a lot of products that I had never used before, and although I the costume wasn’t as perfect as I had liked.. it did turn out better than I had ever imagined it would. I could have not completed it without the help of my wonderful boyfriend Jeremy (who financed most of my costume), my mother, my aunt, and my friend/servermate Rowan (who undertook construction of the Bow of Sorrows for me).

Although I did not think it possible, Blizzcon 2009 topped 2008! Not only because our costumes got finished on time (at one point I thought this to be impossible, as I had been hospitalized a month or two before the con!), but because of the people we got to spend it with. Lindsay (as Valeera Sanguinar), Cait (as Lady Alexstrasza), Rainyia (as the Mistress of Pain, and winner of the costume contest!), Christina (Mother Shahraz), and all of our other cosplay friends looked absolutely fabulous, and all of our very hard work paid off. You can view all of us onstage by watching our the Blizzcon 2009 Costume Competition on Youtube here: Part 1Part 2, etc.

This year I will be taking on something new yet again for Blizzcon 2010 …and many of you already know what it is… but those of you who don’t will just have to wait until next time… ;)
